Polfareren hotell, Longyearbyen Svalbard

We had the pleasure of staying at the Polfareren, a pleasant hotel in the center of the city. The rooms were perfectly fine, and we were looking forward to visiting the restaurant. Yes, we had high expectations after all the good recommendations we had read on TripAdvisor. We arrived in Svalbard after a pleasant flight with one change in Tromsø. We were actually surprised at how big this island kingdom is when we fly over. Far bigger than we ever imagined. Your expectations determine how you will experience your arrival in Longyearbyen, but we were really surprised. When we arrived at the hotel, the guests were sitting at an outdoor restaurant right next to the hotel, in T-shirts and shorts and enjoying their beer. The atmosphere was very good, - but they complied with the infection control limit!

You must not be surprised when you are told to take off your shoes, so make sure you have socks without holes when you leave home! We checked into the hotel and checked around a bit it looked very nice and the service at the reception was top-notch. We felt really welcome. Perhaps not so surprising since there had been no tourists there for approx four months.

Let´s enjoy the food.

The second appetizer is Scampi.

The scampi dish, on the other hand, was a little boring and lacked that little something extra, but it was an exciting twist on the dish and it tasted better and better after the expectations had let go! For the main course, we were looking forward to the cod, which had received a lot of praise, but again not quite at its best. The fish was beautifully cooked, but the side dishes were again a bit boring. It is not always worthwhile to prepare with foam, without adding a little reinforcement to the taste picture. The sauce/foam was airy and beautiful in color and it does a lot for the eyes. The wine that was recommended was very close to being the house's, yes it gave extra points! We have to excuse the waitress because she was a little unfocused, but her smile saved a good 4. We were the first guests in 120 days, so we can leave it at that, I give it a 5! I recommend the hotel's restaurant to enjoy a good meal.

The next day there were excursions and experiences, read the main article, but today we were going to eat at a Japanese restaurant called Nuga.

Here, as at Polfareren, there was plenty of space between the tables and few guests. Regardless, we were happy again and got our table and the menu was presented. They said that they didn't have a full menu due to the pandemic, but the dishes they had were of the best quality in terms of ingredients.

Wow!

It´s rare that I drink beer, but in Japan, you drink Japanese beer, and it was actually fresh and very good. That alone is worth the trip here.

Unfortunately, I don't have the names of the dishes, but let the pictures speak for themselves. Pleasant staff and good service. Taste is often based on experience and comparison, so for me, it was a good four, but the wife probably thinks this bordered on a five. So then it's just a matter of taking a trip yourself and testing.

On the last day, there were new exciting excursions far up in Adventsdalen with great views all the way to Advedsfjorden. After this, we had a trip to the Svalbard museum.

We ended our food experiences at the Kroa (Inn) restaurant, which was right next to the hotel. They don't have the prettiest entrance, but they have the very best atmosphere, yes, the city was alive.

There were lots of local people and everyone enjoyed themselves. Proper pub atmosphere

in the local bar!

In addition, the staff was very nice and we like to talk to people who live in the place to hear good stories and we got that. We won't repeat these have, but just say that no matter where you are going to live or where you choose to eat, you must visit Thanks for the food, next time we'll probably go there around April when the winter has let up, but the snow is still on the ground. Have a good trip, and just enjoy yourself. See the whole tour here
