How to get to La Gomera

The fastest way to get to La Gomera is to fly from Tenerife. The island has only one airport (in the town of Alajeró) which receives flights from the international airports on Tenerife South and Tenerife North. If your flight from the mainland lands in Tenerife South, the easiest way to get to La Gomera is by boat. The charming little island of La Gomera is only about 50-60 minutes by boat from Tenerife. Still, it's like entering another world. Hiking trails through beautiful laurel forests, small beaches and a genuine atmosphere are some of the key words to describe this peaceful island.

La Gomera is the Canary Islands' second smallest island, but it offers many experiences for those who like magnificent nature, hiking and idyllic small towns. The climate is as good as on the other Canary Islands and there are many small beaches, good hotels, charming promenades and delicious restaurants. But the genuine atmosphere is noticeable, with villages and small towns instead of tall hotels and mass tourism. Experiences Valle Gran Rey: Enjoy the dramatic views of the valleys, beautiful beaches and charming villages. This is one of the island's most popular areas for tourists. Los Órganos: Admire the natural basalt formations that resemble a church organ - best seen from the sea on a boat trip. Europe's last rainforest.  The first time I was told that there was a unique rainforest on this unique island. Sometimes it is completely magical to both move in this area, but when the cloud pumps start sooty herring, - wow! I see clouds of water being pumped both up and down the mountainside in a way I had never experienced before. We were there in the summer and it was sunny at the hotel about 50 minutes away, but the weather was great for a real rainforest! Unfortunately I don't have pictures, but memories in my head, I'll never forget! Garajonay National Park: This park is of course UNESCO listed. The national park with its mysterious laurel forests, perfect for hiking and photography.

You must see this

El Cedro Forest: A lush forest ideal for leisurely walks and picnics in a peaceful setting.

Silbo Gomero: Experience the island's unique flute language, a tradition that is on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.

Recommended: Rent a car or join guided tours to explore the steep roads and hidden villages. The experience of driving the narrow mountain roads can give you some magical experiences. Wow. Just to enjoy! If you come from the south and drive north, in the middle of the island you will experience the lush part and the almost parched part, depending a little on the amount of rainfall in recent months. In any case, there are great contrasts on this volcanic island.

Accommodation, with recommendation La Gomera has many charming accommodation options, including small family-owned hotels and rural casas rurales, which provide an authentic experience. We ourselves have been here over 20 years ago, but still think about this fantastic fool. It just has to be experienced. Not forgetting the golf course where you can see the volcano on Tenerife, Pico de Teide, the Canary Islands.

Fred Olsen (nowegian) has a hotel on La Gomera called Hotel Jardín Tecina. Perched on a cliff in Playa de Santiago, this 4-star hotel offers spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and Tenerife's Mount Teide.

The hotel is surrounded by a 70,000 square meter botanical garden with over 50 plant species from all over the world.

The story behind the establishment of Hotel Jardín Tecina: Fred Olsen's boats transported, among other things, bananas from the Canary Islands long before it became a tourist paradise in the seventies. In that context, the captains of the cargo boats had been told to look for unique places to establish a great hotel with all qualities. On one of the trips, one of the captains had come into contact with an acquaintance who told them that they had found water in several places south of La Gomera. Then a telegram arrived from Fred Olsen.

If you found water, - buy land!

We stayed overnight at this facility right after it was opened around 2002. We visited the place with friends and had a wonderful experience with good food, nice service and "our own" golf course.

When we were here, this place was not very well known and there were not many guests and no one playing golf, so we had the whole course to ourselves for several days. There is an 18-hole golf course called Tecina Golf.

THE FACTS! This is one of the most unique golf courses in the Canary Islands and offers a spectacular experience for golf enthusiasts. Notice how green it is on the golf course itself and without enough water this would not have been possible.
