Let me say right away that whether you are going on a sun and beach holiday, experiencing art and culture, knowing history, enjoying the wonderful taste of the Mediterranean, you have come to the right place. Palma is a year-round destination, with great weather and temperature, but it is a bit chilly from December to February.

Let's start with a few facts.

I have read that some people call Palma the capital of tourists, and I like it. It can easily be perceived as a great place for a small "big city holiday". For me, Palma is primarily a pleasant city with a lot of history, culture, shopping and nightlife. The fact that it also has many very good restaurants is important, I have actually been pleasantly surprised here. So for all sun and swimming lovers, here are the stomach offers that you can read about further down in this article.

NB! This is not a full description of experiences, but many tips that may make it a little easier for you to plan your trip to Palma.

Palma may remind you a little of Barcelona, but with its approximately 350,000 inhabitants, it will only be a small trickle and that's fine. I have lived both by the harbor and in the old town and both places have their advantages.

When we stay in the old town, which has become my favorite area, we get lots of history and far less traffic. In the narrow alleys and cobblestone streets, there are several hotels in buildings that are over 1000 years old, and I promise you, - they are incredibly beautiful. I can mention one such as here Puro Grand Hotell which is absolutely beautiful. In addition, you can stay in a palace if you want all the quality you pay for and it's called Palacio Can Marqués.

When you first live or are in the old town, you will find beautiful and exciting galleries galore and, in addition, great shopping opportunities.

If you are interested in art, as I said, Palme is a great place. If you start at Gallery K, see map, you are at the entrance to one of the best areas. Click for map

In general, it should be said that it is only 5-10 minutes by taxi to all areas in Palma, a little depending on the traffic, so it is not a question of great distances.

Speaking of distance: The airport is only 15 minutes by car from the city center and is just the right size.

Things to do in Palma

One of my regular tips, to quickly get to know each other, is to take a trip by bike, segway, horse and buggy or my favorite Hop on and off buses. If you use a bus, you get around quickly and get a good overview of the city for around NOK 240 per trip. p. and it takes about 1.5 hours. Check Trip Adviser

You must visit the Cathedral.

Wow, this was incredibly large and actually very nice. Sit down on a bench and reflect a little on the fact that you are going to start a project and it will take around 400 years before it is finished!

The construction of Santa Maria in Palma or La Seu, started in 1229 and in 1601.

The cathedral is large, in fact even larger than Notre Dame in Paris, therefore this cathedral will be one of the largest in Europe.

- Buy the ticket in advance and it will go faster.

You can read more about this wonderful structure a little further down

Right next to the cathedral is the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, a 14th-century building that remains the official residence of the King and Queen of Spain when they visit. Remember to check opening times and ticket prices, it applies to everything.La Llotja was built in the 15th century and designed by the architect Guillem Sagrera. The building was home to the School of Merchants which maintained the Port of Palma and controlled trade in what was once one of the busiest ports in the Mediterranean.

Closed on Mondays. Free to enter.

Then you have to go for a walk.

Passeig del Born, a great area with an avenue and pavement cafes, this is the biggest shopping street in Palma. People believe that it is a miniature of the Champs-Élysées with large "high street" fashion and designer stores. I would rather describe the area as incredibly pleasant, clean and with everything that you, who like shopping, have.

Passeig del Born is definitely worth the short walk it is.

From here you can easily move into the old town, if you are interested in visiting one of the many galleries you will find here. Or maybe just go, look and take your time, maybe relax with a cup of coffee and something to eat.

If you have come to swim and sunbathe, then you have also come to the right place, see more information a little further down.
