In 1881, King Oscar II opened the castle as a museum to the public. Lystslottet is open to the public in the summer. Then you can go on a tour there - or visit Café Dronning Joséphine and the surrounding park. Tickets for tours are bought on the spot. Performances are also organized at Oscarshall - both music, dance and theatre.

Dronningen (The Quin) was originally the club and function room of the Royal Norwegian Sailing Association, located at the end of Huk Avenue on Bygdøy in Oslo, at the far end of the Dronningen causeway. Since 1995, the banquet facilities have been owned by shipowner Petter C.G. Healthy. The company premises can be rented to closed companies, but also offer à la carte.

Bygningen ble oppført i perioden 1916–1920, tegnet av arkitekt Bredo Henrik Berntsen.[1] I sin opprinnelige form hadde bygget 10 etasjer samt tårn og et areal på 39 708 m². I det ytre ble dimensjonene redusert ved å dele opp fasaden med kransjakter, utspring og tårn. Stilmessig kan bygningen plasseres i nordisk nybarokk med klassiske elementer og detaljer med jugendpreg. På grunn av byggets høyde, ble det på folkemunne kalt «Jacobs drøm»,[2] med hentydning til den gammeltestamentlige fortellingen om Jacob som drømmer om en stige som rekker like inn i himmelen. Bygningen ble tildelt prisen Betongtavlen i 1965. Oslo Havnelager er et monument over sjøfartens enorme utvikling under og etter første verdenskrig. Med datidens teknikk var byggingen særdeles vanskelig og utfordrende, og med stigende priser og lønninger under den første verdenskrig ble alle kalkyler sprengt. Fra det opprinnelige beløpet på 3,2 millioner kroner steg sluttregningen til hele 9,3 millioner.
